Just a friendly reminder about medical oxygen generation plants, particularly the commonly used pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen generator. This amazing device utilizes pressure swing adsorption technology to extract oxygen from the air. Inside the medical oxygen generator, there is a special material called molecular sieve, which has an incredibly high surface area of 800-1000m2/g per gram.
When the air is subjected to pressure, the molecular sieve's physical adsorption and desorption abilities come into play, allowing it to selectively adsorb nitrogen from the air while collecting the oxygen. By purifying the collected oxygen, a relatively high purity level can be achieved.
During the process of depressurizing the molecular sieve, the previously adsorbed nitrogen is released back into the air. Consequently, when the pressure is increased again, the molecular sieve is capable of adsorbing nitrogen and producing oxygen once more. This dynamic process enables the medical oxygen generator to cyclically produce oxygen.
It's truly remarkable how these oxygen generators harness the power of pressure swing adsorption technology and molecular sieve to ensure a steady supply of oxygen for medical purposes.

 

Oxygen production process:

The psa medical oxygen generation plant utilizes air as its raw material for the production of oxygen. Before the air enters the compressor for compression, it undergoes a filtration process to eliminate impurities such as oil, dust, moisture, and solid particles. The compressed high-pressure air is then cooled and directed to the adsorption tower where it undergoes a separation process. The adsorption tower contains molecular sieve, which adsorbs nitrogen and carbon dioxide present in the air, leaving behind oxygen with relatively high purity. This oxygen can be utilized as medical oxygen.
A portion of the separated oxygen is stored in a gas storage tank and is decompressed for usage through the pressure reducing valve, flowmeter, and humidification bottle. The remaining oxygen undergoes a cleaning process where the adsorber is backflushed and desorbed in the desorption state. The nitrogen gas is discharged through the muffler. This entire process ensures that pure oxygen is generated and made available for medical purposes.
